Privacy and Security

We take the issue of privacy very seriously. On this page, you will find our policies regarding the collecting and use of personal data required for running the competition, and the security measures we have in place to protect that data. Who are we?

The Student Investor Challenge is run by The London Institute of Banking & Finance. The online portion of the competition was developed by and is maintained by Refined Practice KlG ('Refined Practice') and their agents.

What data do we collect?

Our registration forms require users to give us contact information (such as name, email, and postal address) and unique identifiers (such as your Teacher Reference Number, team login name and password).

What do you use the data for?

The data we collect is used to enable you to log in and take part in the competition online, and to send you information required to take part in the competition (such as information on the semi-final stage of the Student Investor Challenge). Optionally, you can also sign up to receive a fortnightly news update, which contains news and information pertaining to the competition or you can also sign up to find out more about other activities of The London Institute of Banking & Finance. You will not receive marketing material from any third party organisations.

If you have registered for the ReTrader game, your data will be used only for the purpose of playing the game and notifying winners – Amplify do not have access to your data.

You can update your preferences at any time by logging into your profile.

Data Protection

We use and protect your personal data taking into account relevant legislation including the General Data Protection Regulation and the UK Data Protection Act (2018). Data is collected by Refined Practice on behalf of The London Institute of Banking & Finance and is maintained by Refined Practice. The data will be shared between The London Institute of Banking & Finance, Refined Practice and their respective Agents solely for the running of the competition and will not be passed on to any other third parties. We may contact you from time to time to verify and update the data we hold on your records (e.g. school contact details).


We take the security issue very seriously. All personal data that you transmit to us via this website is encrypted using the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption standard.

Can I see what data you hold for me?

Most of the data we hold for you can be securely accessed via the team edit page (you will have to enter your team name and password). You also have the right to access all the data we hold against your records. We will supply this within 30 days of the request being received by us. If you would like to request to see this data, please contact us.

Cookie policy

If you use the Internet to carry out certain transactions with us, your computer will store small pieces of information, known as cookies. A cookie is a small text file that is stored temporarily by your browser and is used by the website you are visiting to remember you throughout your visit to that website.

We use session (non-persistent) cookies to identify you when you log into a password-protected site. This avoids the need for you to repeatedly enter your password as you navigate around the password-protected site. The cookies are deleted as soon as your session is ended.

We also use persistent cookies to store non-personal details when you visit our website. This enables us to find out whether your computer has visited our website before by checking to see, and finding, the cookie left there on the last visit.
